The availability and use of novel psychoactive substances such as synthetic cannabis has increased globally. However, the prevalence of synthetic cannabis use remains uncertain, as does the degree to which people who prefer using synthetic cannabis to other drugs.

In this qualitative study, we will collect data through observations and interviews with participants to help us better understand the use of synthetic cannabis in street-based settings in Footscray. We are especially interested in identifying any potential harmful impacts of synthetic cannabis use and how these can be best reduced.

Through our interview data, we aim to better understand the reasons for synthetic cannabis use and highlight any potential health problems with its use.

The data collected will help to highlight any access to treatment issues and incorporate the lived experience of synthetic cannabis use into potential drug policy changes.
