“Being a Research Action Partner is important to me.

Every month when I make my contribution, it reminds me of how grateful I am to be in a position where I can help improve life for others who are living in far less privileged circumstances.”

—Fiona Athersmith, Research Action Partner since 2011.

The benefits of being a Research Action Partner:
You’re supporting science and health equity

You're helping to achieve better health outcomes for people in need, across Australia and internationally, month by month.

Helps you achieve your philanthropic goals

A monthly contribution can add up to a significant annual amount, which means you can achieve your annual philanthropic goals as part of your monthly budget.

Simplified tax time

A single receipt at the end of the financial year makes tax time much simpler. And of course all gifts are tax deductible.

You're in control

There are no contracts and you’re not locked in to anything – you can change, pause or cancel your monthly gift whenever you like.

Special event invitations

We like to invite our Research Action Partners to special events like lab tours, lectures and lunches, to experience first-hand what your monthly support is achieving.

Why we can't do this without you:

You make our research possible

Funding for medical research is stretched so tight these days. Even world-class research may not get off the ground, simply because there isn't enough funding to go around. Your support means that we can invest in new and innovative research, as we’re able to funnel your support to precisely where it’s needed most.

You’re in it for the long haul

Medical research, whether it be in the lab or in the field takes time. Research pipelines are long and complicated. Sometimes we have to go back to the drawing board and start again. Likewise, it takes time and a concerted effort to create change in health systems around the world. It takes a person with vision to understand how medical research is not just about a quick fix, but about constant sustained effort – month by month.

You’re loyal

Many of our Research Action Partners have been with us for an incredibly long time. Some joined and began supporting our research as far back as the 1980s, when we were still known as Fairfield Hospital. This long-term ongoing support is a testament to the loyalty and partnered approach we have with our donors – and we’re grateful for that. We wouldn't have it any other way.

You believe in the science

Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet (known as Mac Burnet) was a Nobel Prize winning virologist known for his contributions to immunology. Burnet Institute celebrates Mac Burnet’s legacy of excellence and innovation, and strives to continue in his footsteps. In a rapidly changing world, science plays a critical role in tackling global health issues. It’s great to know you understand the importance of science and evidence-led decision-making.

This work is complex. It’s exciting. And we can't do it without you.

When you sign up to give monthly, you are standing up for health equity.

Health equity will only truly exist when science reaches far beyond race, gender, sexuality, status or location. Everything we do here at Burnet is driven by this one core belief.

Your commitment as a Research Action Partner means that you too, are standing up for health equity.

Here at Burnet we strive month-by-month towards a healthier world, so it’s great to know you’re considering supporting us every step of the way by becoming a Research Action Partner.

Your monthly gift will support Burnet’s core medical research in the labs and in the field, in Australia and around the world.

Our integrated teams of lab-based scientists and field-based workers are making remarkable progress towards big goals in combating malaria, hepatitis C and B, tuberculosis, HIV and now COVID-19.

The Burnet Diagnostics Initiative is developing affordable point-of-care tools that can be made and shared with communities that might not otherwise be able to access the life-saving benefits of timely diagnosis.

Our Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health program, which includes the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies (HMHB) program in Papua New Guinea (PNG), continues to reduce mortality including stillbirths, and ensure children and adolescents thrive, especially in under-resourced communities.
