Fiona Athersmith: Activated by social justice

  • 05 Sep 2023

Research Action Partner since 2009

Being a Research Action Partner is important to me. Every month when I make my contribution, it reminds me of how grateful I am to be in a position where I can help improve life for others who are living in far less privileged circumstances.

As a journalist, I’ve covered war, famine, politics – and more – in some of the most troubled places on earth. Social justice is vitally important to me, and this is why I support Burnet.

I’m passionate about how Burnet not only does ground-breaking research in the labs but, most importantly, applies that research to directly assist vulnerable people and communities.

And vitally, Burnet’s work is sensitive to the values, customs and behavioural aspects of local communities. Burnet’s programs help empower local people, so initiatives are better adopted by the community, and can make a real, lasting impact.

Supporting Burnet’s breakthrough work in the lab and in the field makes me feel part of a team making a powerful difference in the world. I’m delighted you are joining this truly collaborative effort.
