Worldwide, TB is the leading cause of infectious diseases deaths. Indonesia is a World Health Organization high burden country for TB, Multi-Drug Resistant TB and TB/HIV. In 2017 an estimated eight percent of the worlds TB cases occurred in Indonesia.
Indonesia’s current response to TB is unlikely to be sufficient to achieve drastic and rapid reductions in the disease burden to meet global END TB targets. This project, in partnership with Gadjah Mada University and local partners, will implement the Zero TB Initiatives comprehensive approach to control and eliminate TB in Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia. It will utilise the principles of the approach, searching actively for TB cases, treating TB effectively and preventing or treating exposure; search-treat-prevent.
