Anja Busse

Background

In the first half of 2023, Anja Busse is on a sabbatical from her position as Programme Officer with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Since 2005 she works at the Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section of UNODC and coordinates global projects on drug use disorder treatment and care.

The global projects support UN Member States in their efforts to improve accessibility and quality of treatment and care services. Anja has been involved in the development and dissemination of technical guidance documents such as the UNODC-WHO International Standards for the Treatment of Drug Use Disorders (2020) or the UNODC-WHO Handbook on Treatment and Care for People with Drug use Disorders in Contact with the Criminal Justice System (2019) as well as the oversight of project implementation in more than 25 countries around the world. She collaborated with Professor Paul Dietze from Burnet Institute on the UNODC-WHO Stop-Overdose-Safely (SOS) project and initiative.

She is a Psychology graduate (University of Berlin, Germany) with a Master's in public health (Medical School Hanover, Germany) and has been trained on Family Therapy. Anja's publication record is available to view here.
