Background
Doriano first joined Burnet as a student in 2019, completing a master's degree under the supervision of Associate Professor Peter Higgs and Professor Paul Dietze. He conducted statistical analyses of longitudinal trends in the use, availability and harms of ecstasy in Australia to outline ecstasy's health and societal impacts. During this time, Doriano also authored the 2020 edition of the Victorian Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System annual report. In 2025, Doriano joined Burnet as a research assistant.

MIXMAX is the largest active cohort study of people who use drugs in Australia. It combines 2 pre-existing studies: SuperMIX and VMAX.

The VMAX cohort study follows 850 people who use methamphetamine recruited from metropolitan Melbourne and 3 regions of rural Victoria.
