Background

Katrina is a PhD candidate at the Burnet Institute and Monash University, supervised by Dr Johanna Fraser and Professor Hayley Newton.

Her research focuses on understanding how the intracellular bacterium Wolbachia pipientis disrupts the replication and transmission of mosquito-borne viruses from mosquitoes to humans.

Through her work, Katrina aims to contribute to Wolbachia’s continued success in protecting communities from mosquito-borne diseases worldwide. Katrina holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and an Honours degree in Microbiology from Monash University.
