Document summary
We aimed to understand the needs of young people in the Pasifika community in southeast Melbourne after COVID-19.
We worked with a community project officer. They helped plan and run the project and engage with the community.
We had 2 group discussions with 30 young people who shared what their community needs. We used the talanoa research method for this project. This is a community-based method where people share their stories, thoughts and feelings through a casual conversation.
The report describes key themes that came up during the talanoa sessions:
- perceptions of COVID-19
- education
- employment and finances
- family experiences
- culture
- social relationships
- health and wellbeing
- access to services and supports.
We completed this project with our partners Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) and Monash ActionLab (MAL). More information is available on the CMY website.
