Compass: Women's and Children's Health Knowledge Hub

Compass was a partnership between the Burnet Institute, the Centre for International Child Health and Menzies School of Health Research.

Burnet’s work included generating, synthesising and disseminating evidence on reproductive, maternal, and perinatal health, while our partners focused on child health and nutrition.

Relevant topics included:

  • Community level delivery of services particularly in settings with high maternal and newborn mortality where most women deliver at home (including PNG, Solomon Islands, Lao PDR and Indonesia)
  • Overcoming delays in reaching emergency obstetric care
  • Improving access of adolescents to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services (including work in Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Timor Leste)
  • Communication and counselling skills of maternal and newborn health care providers
  • Greater male involvement in maternal and child health care
  • Challenges faced by small cities in delivering maternal, neonatal and child services to the urban poor.
