Maternal Neonatal and Child Health support in Gangaw and Ngaphae townships in Magway Region – Myanmar
The project adopts a continuum of care for reproductive health and child health through a range of service providers at the township level. These services are aligned with national strategies and prioritise high impact, low cost interventions and integrated delivery of services at the primary and community levels. Essential health services delivery addresses the main causes of maternal, newborn and child death and illness for poor and vulnerable populations in Gangaw and Ngape.
The objectives of this project are:
Delivery of essential services, with a focus on maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), in project townships
Strengthened capacity for delivery of essential MNCH services in townships, supported by the 3MDG Fund
Enhanced health services accountability and responsiveness through capacity development of target communities, civil society organisations and the public sector
The project supports (i) training of Basic Health Staff, especially midwives, community health workers and auxiliary midwives; (ii) improved supply of drugs and equipment; (iii) provision of emergency obstetric and neonatal care, and (iv) minor refurbishment of health facilities. The project also provides financing to reduce economic barriers to use of health services. Activities planned for the township level will be implemented according to the township health plan.
Save the Children is the lead agency on this project and responsible for implementation and performance monitoring of the project. Burnet provides technical leadership in capacity building, training and monitoring and evaluation and support Township Health Departments in a number of areas including (i) training and supervision of basic health staff, auxiliary midwives and community health workers; and (ii) technical support for monitoring and evaluation systems, data collection, analysis and utilisation at the Township level.
