Doctor Joost W. Vanhommerig

Research Officer

Background

Joost started his PhD research in 2011 at the department of Infectious Diseases Research and Prevention at the Public Health Service of Amsterdam, and continued in 2013 at the department of Medical Microbiology at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam.

His research mainly focused on acute hepatitis C virus infection, and combined the fields of virology and epidemiology.

During the last year of his PhD he also worked as a data manager for the HELIUS health study, a large study investigating cardiovascular and infectious diseases, and mental health among different ethnicities living in Amsterdam.

Joost then continued his career at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, where he worked on neglected tropical diseases with modellers and geospatial analysts.

He joins the Burnet Institute for six months and will work on a hepatitis C modelling project.
