It was standing room only in Burnet Institute’s Long Room for Professor Ric Price’s entertaining and informative Burnet Director’s Seminar entitled The Elimination of malaria – Collaboration and Conflict.

His three-part presentation to Burnet staff and students covered a brief history of malaria, the challenge of Plasmodium vivax (P. vivax) in West Papua and Papua New Guinea, and the drive towards the elimination of malaria.

Professor Price is Professor of Global Health at the Menzies School of Health Research, Professor of Tropical Medicine at the Centre for Tropical Medicine at Oxford University.

He is a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow in Clinical Medicine with a translational research program focused on improving the diagnosis and management of multi-drug resistant Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum) and P. vivax infections.

His work spans clinical drug trials epidemiology, health economics, parasitology and molecular biology.

Professor Price chairs the clinical module of the World Wide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN) and the Vivax Working Group of the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN).
