Burnet’s China program team has hosted a senior delegation from Jiangsu province, Victoria’s sister state in China.

Discussions focused on Burnet’s long-term engagement in China and the recent establishment of Nanjing BioPoint Diagnostic Technology Co, and how this experience could be leveraged for further cooperation between Victoria and Jiangsu in the areas of medical research and biotechnology.

Leading the delegation was Mr Zhou Wei, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu provincial government, who noted the long and productive cooperation between Jiangsu and Victoria throughout their more than 30 year sister state relationship.

His delegation was pleased to report on a number of initiatives currently under discussion by both governments.

Burnet’s China program was delighted to host this meeting, and contribute to discussions regarding future possible initiatives in Jiangsu.

The delegation visited Burnet along with several high level meetings with the Victorian government before departing Melbourne.

“This speaks to Burnet’s profile in this important province, and provides us with an exciting new possibility for leveraging our experience for future opportunities,” said Lisa Renkin, Head of Burnet’s China initiative.

Jiangsu currently ranks as one of the top investors in biotechnology and research and development across China.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews will visit the province during his first official trip to China next month.

The meeting was also attended by senior representatives of the Victorian Government.
