The NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Tuberculosis Control (TB-CRE) Symposium has been rescheduled this year to September 3-4 to follow directly after the Asia Pacific Conference of the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease Conference in Sydney.
Burnet Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr Suman Majumdar and Senior Principal Research Fellow Professor Steve Graham will be presenting to the TB-CRE Symposium, to be hosted by the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Glebe.
At the opening session entitled ‘The Big Picture’, Dr Majumdar will address Challenges of Programmatic management of DR-TB (PDMT) in PNG.
Childhood TB in Australia + global/regional initiatives is the title of Professor Graham’s presentation to the session on Paediatric TB.
The themes of other sessions at the Symposium include ‘Drug Resistance and pathogenesis’, ‘Latent TB infection’ and ‘Vaccines’.
The Symposium will conclude with a debate on whether ‘TB elimination in low burden countries is possible and desirable in the next 20 years’.
