100+ research scientists are working in our state-of-the art labs in Melbourne and Kokopo, PNG.

Burnet has a 30+ year history of laboratory-based discovery research.

The cross-cutting Discipline - Life Sciences - is a community of practice that supports our researchers with common skills and needs, and develop greater technical depth and expertise across the Institute.

Heading the Life Sciences Discipline is Professor Gilda Tachedjian, an HIV research specialist and also a Co-Head of Burnet’s Eliminate HIV sub-program.

Through integrating discovery-based research, translational research and clinical and population research, we aim to achieve new advances in treatments, vaccines, diagnostic tests and prevention strategies to address diseases of major global significance.

More than 100 scientists are working in 15 state-of-the art labs at Burnet’s HQ in Melbourne, Australia

Burnet also supports a specially-built laboratory for the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies research study in Kokopo, East New Britain, PNG.
